abstract: introduction & objective: helicobacter pylori are among the important pathogens responsible for chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. the present study aimed to comparatively evaluate pcr and rut methods for detection of h. pylori and determination of the prevalence of the cagapositive helicobacter pylori strains in shahrekord. materials & methods: this is a molecular epidemiology study conducted in 1385 on biopsy samples collected from 120 patients with dyspeptic symptoms who were referred to endoscopy department of hajar hospital of shahrekord. in order to detect h. pylori, rut method was used at first and then dna was directly extracted from biopsy specimens. pcr-amplification was preformed for the urec and then for caga gene. results: the h. pylori infection was found in 74 (61.66%) of the patient by rut method. in parallel, urec pcr detected h. pylori in 103 (85.83%) of patients. all rut-positive patients were found to be urec-pcr positive, too. the caga-positive h. pylori strains were found in 83.5 percent of isolated strains. conclusion: these findings indicate that urec pcr is more sensitive than rut for diagnosis of h. pylori infection. in addition, the high prevalence of the caga-positive h. pylori strains is present in shahrekord.

PCR and RFLP Analysis for Identification and Typing of Helicobacter pylori Strains from Gastric Biopsy Specimens

Helicobacter pylori is the causative agent of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer diseases and is also a risk factor for gastric cancer. Since culture of Helicobacter pylori is relatively insensitive and cumbersome, PCR-based molecular detection and typing of this organism is gaining importance for strain differentiation. The aim of present study was to apply molecular methods for detection and ...

[Detection of Helicobacter pylori in gastric biopsy and resection specimens].

AIM To compare the sensitivity of detecting H. pylori in gastric biopsy and resection specimens using modified Giemsa stain and immunohistochemistry, using a commercially available anti-H. pylori antibody (Dako, Denmark). METHODS Gastric antral biopsy specimens showing chronic gastritis (28 cases) together with tissue blocks from gastrectomy specimens for duodenal ulcer (2 cases) were stained...

Topographical localisation of cagA positive and cagA negative Helicobacter pylori strains in the gastric mucosa; an in situ hybridisation study.

BACKGROUND The cagA gene is a marker for the presence of the cag pathogenicity island, and the presence of cagA positive strains of Helicobacter pylori can identify individuals with a higher risk of developing gastrointestinal diseases. AIMS To study the interaction between H. pylori cagA(+) and cagA(-) strains and the gastric mucosa. METHODS Patients with H. pylori associated gastritis and...

EPIYA motif patterns among Cuban Helicobacter pylori CagA positive strains.

INTRODUCTION It is known that polymorphisms in C-terminal region of CagA influence gastric disease development on Helicobacter pylori infection. Additionally, the geographic distribution of these polymorphisms has been associated with the appearance of more severe gastroduodenal pathologies. Objective. To determine the CagA phosphorylation motifs pattern (EPIYA pattern) in Cuban H. pylori isola...
